Unfortunately, due to the ongoing Covid-19 situation, we will not be able to host our annual Memorial Day Parade and services for the public this year.
Although it is known by most as the unofficial start to the summer season, the day holds a much greater significance. It is a day to honor and remember all the brave men and women who gave their lives protecting our great nation. We feel these men and women still deserve to be remembered and honored as they have been in the past. We will be hosting a Facebook Live service starting at 10am on Monday May 25, 2020 for all who wish to watch.
We are doing our best to continue adapting to the circumstances our region faces and provide the best possible service to our community.
I would also like to take a moment to mention a few summer season safety tips. Please use caution on the roadways, as there is a significant increase in pedestrian and bicycle traffic with the warmer weather. We have had a few accidents in the last few weeks with individuals sustaining significant injuries. We have also had a few water/ boating related incidents in the last two weeks. Please make sure that you have all Coast Guard required safety equipment on your vessel and you are familiar with the waterways and rules of boating before beginning your trip. Stay safe!
Sincerely,
James A. Schmidt
Chief of Department
